Dear Bloggy,

This post is intended to serve two purposes, marking a start to my new chapter in life as well as a conclusion of the previous one. Hence, it will be posted to the new blog, luqmanhbs.livejournal.com as well as the old blog, rockzy.blogspot.com . With that said, the previous blog may be updated whenever I see fit, though for now, it is meant as an archive for me to look back and laugh at my foolish self.

The inspiration for this new start was sparked by a dream I had on Sunday, 23rd April 2011. In the dream, I was transported back to the day when I was in Secondary 3, 15 years old. It was a lucid dream so much so that it really felt like I was living life back then. Everything was detailed and many characters around me were believable. The only exception was that I was aware that this was perhaps my second chance of correcting all the past mistakes I've made and steer my life into a different direction.

It's funny isn't it how we sometimes wished so hard we could rewrite history but never truly understood how much things could have changed by just one minor change. Or do we truly realise it, only choosing to ignore the implications. Just like a child, do we just wish to believe/see what we want to believe / see?

As I was sitting in the bus earlier, I reflected on how the various hardships has transformed me as well as the path I've chosen had moulded me into the person I am today.

Back in Secondary School, I was immature and took for granted the things I had going for me. While in Secondary 3, I was streamed into the Pure Science / Humanities class ( Pure Humanities was what distinguished us). Looking back, I got a culture shock as I was suddenly in a class of people who were in the same league as myself. In statistical terms, the standard deviation amongst ourselves was very low compared to pre-streaming where the curve was more normal.

Being lazy, I categorised the students in my class into two groups : Hardworking or Intelligent. Though I didn't articulate this, I sorted myself into the Intelligent subgroup while placing my peers as Hardworking. Oh, forgive my arrogance and ego. I guess at that time, I had to justify my actions of taking things easy while witnessing my classmates working very hard. My teachers saw the potential and urged me to work hard but having things easy in lower secondary spoiled me. I didn't change my ways and my "O" Levels reflected that. It was neither excellent nor poor, yet I knew I could have done better had I just put in more effort. This realisation still haunts me to this day.

The beauty of mistakes is learning from them and evolving as a person. We might take a step back once in a while and relapse but as long we get back on the right path eventually, we still grow as a person.
My decision to go to a Polytechnic instead of a Junior College is by far the BIGGEST decision I've made. I was on a crossroads and I had no map to tell me where each road will lead me. I had a chance to remain in St Andrews Junior College, a prestigious school that many aspire be. But sitting at the large lecture theater that day, I realised that I had little career choices after taking into consideration my passion. I could only see myself teaching Mathematics ( my love ) or doing something like Accounting. Being an Engineer, Doctor or Lawyer, though very prestigious careers had no appeal to me. Being practical, I thought to myself, why go through all the trouble of learning subjects which I hated with a passion, Chemistry, Computing and Malay Language just to forget about them later when I pursue a career in Accountancy. I had to have a "headstart" into University. Sure I'd be going in a year later but more knowledgeable with a basic understanding of the concepts. So Polytechnic it was.

The next obstacle that I faced was , well, the view that Polytechnic graduands were inferior to JC graduands. It was inherent from the way Universities accepted applicants. So I constantly told myself, I need to succeed. I need to prove myself. But I stumbled. In Poly Year 1, Semester 1, I enjoyed myself too much. Copied and paste tutorials. Playing games in lecture and class. Took the common test and exams for granted. Didn't really put much effort into my work. Played pool a few hours before an important test. Ah...so immature. But I survived with not much damage to my GPA : 3.7. Above average but I knew, this was just the first semester, the easiest semester. I had to buck up.

A mistake that was a blessing in disguise was me oversleeping during my timetable selection. 3 minutes, just 3 minutes I overslept and it set me back on path. I didn't know it then. I cursed at it then but that 3 minutes probably saved me. I missed the chance to be in class with my clique. Instead, I got into the class with my Semester 1 classmates, the "Hardworking" ones. Of course I had few "Intelligent" people like Dinis with me but majority of the 9 was the "Hardworking" people.

That 3 minutes saved me. They say choose your friends wisely cause it will influence who you are. How true those words of wisdom were. That semester, their attitude rubbed off on me. No longer was I going out during lunch, no longer was I playing games in class and no longer did I ignore class test. I did my work diligently and studied hard for my test. The results spoke for itself : 3.8. Not much difference in GPA but it was all As except for 1 subject. I missed by that much. And suddenly, I was hooked.
I finally saw what my "Hardworking" classmates in Secondary School saw. I finally tasted "Accomplishment" where your hard work rewarded you. There was no luck involved. I believe I am a good judge of character and I solemnly swear that I would not have had this enlightenment in JC. Hell, I could have even failed JC 1 or my "A" levels and be lost now.

Year 2 wasn't any less forgiving for my character development. After getting rejected so many times in the past, one rejection pushed me over the edge. I realised that my failure was partly due to my lack of confidence, and my weight was a HUGE contributing factor. I've let myself go. I was 108 kg with 25% body fat. I wasn't round but I was definitely big. It was a depressing moment in my life. It was one of the lowest points in my life. I could have been possibly clinically depressed, that I never know.

One of my later good friend, Denise Koh told me in Year 3 that I was like a changed person. In the past, she said she was so afraid of me because I was always so gloomy and negative. Suddenly, I was so bright and cheerful, smiling and laughing. Ah... how things change.

Year 2 semester holidays was what I used to kickstart my weight loss. By the time school started, which was 7 weeks later, I had shed 10kg and was considerably trimmer, though still technically obese. Would I have time to lose that weight when I was in JC, stressing over exams? No. Would I have met someone that would have lowered my morale so much that I had to lose weight? No. I feel that perhaps I would still be unhealthy and fat had I gone to a JC. I'll never know for certain but that's what I really believe.

Semester 2 of Year 2 was what I call my double dip depression. Haha. Ill keep that story to myself. The implications was that I had to make a fresh start. Not telling most of my clique, I decided not to drop Diploma Plus. The additional stress during Economics was too heavy of a burden and I knew I was struggling. I had told myself I was going to drop the diploma and concentrate on my core modules. I even managed to convince my father. However, she "forced my hand". I knew that dropping it meant that I had to spend at least another semester with her and that wouldn't have healed any wounds, constantly being reminded of what I couldn't have. So I stayed and I got my internship deferred. Suddenly, Year 3 would be an entirely new journey.
Blessing in disguise. The new environment and my new start enabled me to drop any anchor I had. Year 3 wasn't smooth sailing but it's one of the most enjoyable times of my life. In the end, I'm graduating with a Diploma with Merit. I've also been accepted into NTU Accountancy and looking forward to the 2013 semester.

As I am staring into my New Chapter in Life : National Service, I reminisce all the times I had since Secondary School through Poly which had made me the man I am today. I am officially closing the chapter of my RockZy days, a persona I created in Secondary 2 which is also symbolised by the change in blog. Unfortunately, it appears that I've created another, my Luke phase and I wonder how long before I grow out of it. Sure I may have forgotten to write some important detail but Ill be sure to update it in post when the time comes.

I believe I'm a really patient person. I'm very sure alot of my Polytechnic friends (maybe those from my semester) can vouch that they have hardly seen me angry. Or really really angry.

I can laugh at my misfortunes and the bad stuff that happens to me. I have a very good sense of humour and I'm sure I can take jokes as they come.

So firstly to everyone reading, there are warning signs to when I'm angry.

First, I'll keep quiet.
Then, I'll tell you either to not bother me or I'll concede and request you just drop the matter as I can sense an argument coming which I would rather avoid. Note, I said concede.

But for god sakes, please at that point where I already let you win, would you please DO NOT continue spiting me?

I admit that a flaw of mine is when I reach my boiling point, I stay there for a very very long time. I guess it's the yin and yang. Very difficult to get angry and hence very difficult to calm down.

With that said, to anyone reading, what happened just now was a very small matter. It was a just a joke that went too far I guess. But the childishness of the joke coupled with me not knowing it was a joke and me clearly displaying irritatedness does not mean you should continue. Learn to take a hint.

Again, to those reading, I really dont know who exactly I am angry at. Everything happened on chat where someone took over another's computer. Just the whole scenario bugs me.

Ok, I admit, I might be too sensitive.

Tell you what, life has been really good to me lately, except for the girlfriend part. LOL

I am really grateful to be working at PwC. I've met many people and made alot of new friends, and not all of them are NP Interns! Wohoooo!

I think I am making up for secondary school where I pretty much survived in seclusion.

Now Bloggy, I have a dilemma and it would be great if you answered it ( or at least those reading give me your opinions ).

A few weeks ago, with the whole DBS girl episode, a friend (is she a friend? ah. ok, a friend ) of mine said I shouldn't just jio a random stranger and it would surely fail if I do so. Firstly, it got me so freaking pissed off at her but that's a whole different story for a different day ( remind me to explore that topic later ).

Anyways, it's bugging the hell out of me still. Should I really try to go for girls who are already my friends. Speaking from experience, I know that this might lead to very uncomfortable and awkward situations and might ruin the dynamics of the friendship.

On the other hand, being in love with one of your best friends can be a really enriching experience.

However, the hopeless romantic in me wants a relationship where I see a girl in the streets, fall madly in love with her over dunno what reason and everyday I get to know her, love her more and more each day.

Or is it more romantic to have no feelings or mutual feelings for a friend and have it blossom?

I really dont know, but the former sounds much cooler

Beginning of Internship!

Dear Bloggy,

You got to thank Wan Ting that I'm paying more attention to you. This is like the 3rd post in less than a week? Haha.

Internship was unexpected really. Before going in, I heard many horror stories from my old clique and lecture mates that wasn't really encouraging. I mean, I had to endure 6 months of them updating their facebook status lamenting on how work is tough. Many were counting down to the last day of employment and celebrated the day with sheer delight.

However, I believe in the concept of Self-Fulfilling Prophecy. Throughout the 6 months I was studying, I was constantly psyching myself up that Internship would be the GOAL, not the last hurdle. I was always looking forward to put learning into practice. With this attitude, I believe it shaped how I looked at everything Ive seen so far and made me appreciate all the details. It's really enjoyable now. Some are saying Im lying to myself, but hey, if it gets me through without stress, I ask, Why Not?

Though orientation is still on and the "real stuff" has not been handed out, I am really enjoying my internship. Though Audit was never my strongest subject ( I believe Financial Accounting is ), I'm really beginning to see the links between the financial statements and manage to quickly access the information bank I kept from Audit 1 and 2.

I guess the lesson here is , do not memorise, understand. Memorising doesn't really store information as well as when you understand concepts.

LOL...and future Hakim, you were so damaged in 2010, it's not even funny. Love wise that is.

Two Post in One Day?

Lol. This was a poem I wrote on August 21st, when I realised I couldnt feel anything after a girl rejected me

Hollow

Emotions slowly sinking in,

That I hoped I could escape.

Am I not numb enough or is the pain too great?

Should I accept destiny or should I challenge fate?

My world went passing by,

but I chose to be left behind.

Thought Id hold on to something that was slipping.

But the reality is, it was already missing.

The two clouds above my eyes,

and the two defiantly static trees.

But the waterfalls would no longer flow,

Third Year - 1st Semester

Well, with the prodding of Wan Ting and Shu Qing's comment, I shall update my blog today.

Level 3.1 in Polytechnic has come and gone and it's time for me to reflect. ( Well, technically I reflect all the time, but maybe reflect in Black and White? )

Only few know the story of why I was deferred though the official reason was because of diploma plus. Looking back at the two reasons, I believe that although it was really challenging and I wanted to rip my hair out at times, it was the correct decision to make.

Even before school started, I made a decision to stay away from classes that had students who had their internship deferred too. I guess you can see it as an anti-social move but I believe that it was contrary to that. Being in a class full of strangers forced me to interact and socialise and I am thankful that I've picked up some skills of making new friends. Oh and dear classmates, if you are reading this and you're laughing at my "sociability ", you should see how I was like in Secondary School.

Projects were the toughest part of the semester as I was not used to working styles of my new groupmates but I shall not delve further into it.

Gymwerkz was what really kept me sane during the long semester and I believe without it, I would have gone bonkers and killed someone or myself. It pretty much occupied free time I had which would have otherwise been spent emo-ing.

My love life has been pretty much non-existent. Due to events of my last year 2 semester, I was left in an emotional wreck. Instead of doing the sensible thing and try to rebuild myself from foundation up, I instead relied on rather cheap thrills to numb the pain. It earned me some unflattering reputation as a "flirt" or "player" by some people but I guess I do not want to live up to people's expectations.

Nobody is perfect and you should give allowances to people for the shortfalls they may have. Different people handle their problems in different ways and I realise what I am doing is not how many would do it. I realise that perhaps, the way I am doing things are not for the long run but please grant me this concession. I know I am damaged and I would really love for you to understand my position. It may take awhile until it doesn't hurt too much or I am no longer afraid to get hurt. Id like to update that I've evolved the feelings to something more platonic though I guess there will always be a soft spot in my heart for her. Oh well....

I guess that's all I have to say. Internship starts in a few days!

I got a new phone and I'll be busy tomorrow trying to organize my contacts. Sucks being a perfectionist doesnt it?

Earlier today, I had an MSN talk with Russell and we suddenly touched and go about how I never lie, but I never tell anyone the whole truth too. He made it seem that I do this to everyone.

This got me thinking, and yes, he is right. I do this to almost everyone.

The Stained Rose

stained by the crimson red of blood.
So elegant and beautiful,
hiding the secret pains within it’s petal.

The stained rose indulged,
from the sweat and tears that flooded it’s bed.
It grew big while it’s source diminished in size,
yet so worth it, for the stained rose flourished as days went by.

The stained rose was spoiled,
from the attention and perpetual warmth,
which radiated from the sun and its source.
And when the time came, it was ready.

Yet the stained rose was like any other red roses,
withered when gifted, mistreated, mishandled.
Trampled by the very being that it was meant for.
And soon it was forgotten, for it was just,
another red rose.

That farmer died that very day,
for no man has ever lived without a heart.

Thoughts Written

there shouldn’t be doubt if you are sure.

This poem is weird or unique in a way as the first three stanzas was meant to be invoking thoughts to the reader by asking them questions and saying things they may or may not agree to.

The last 2 stanzas however shifts from this thought invoking process and instead offers the reader the writer's personal thoughts and experience on that matter.

The inspiration of the poem is the writer's struggle to find himself and wants to share this experience with the readers.

The Barren Heart

How did it snow on this barren land¹?
What you said, I can’t comprehend.
Now freezing cold, my heart remains
at least it’s numbing the hurt and pain.

Those whispered words that pierced my ear²,
Were words I hoped, I’d never hear.
Those eyes that showed your sorrows clear,
were wishing I would disappear,
so I disappeared….

A tragic end to a mangled love³,
fated to end, by the Gods above.
A bitter close to a/their wicked game⁴,
It had to end, it was such a shame.

1 – Barren land is actually a metaphor for an empty heart. What I actually wanted to say is that, the heart was empty after the event ( most likely a break up ) that it became like a plot of land that became barren ( no longer able to produce anything ). So the heart became empty, no longer able to love and became cold, hence the snow.

2 – Of course something whispered cannot really pierce your ear. The image I’m trying to get here is that the words although softly spoken and of a low volume actually had the impact of something so loud that it burst the eardrums. Trying my best to bring about the impact and weight of the words ( most likely the breakup speech ).

3 – Mangled love simply implies that the relationship was a rocky one that probably involved a lot of fights.

4 – A dilemma here. “their wicked game” sort of gives the impression that the Gods above were like playing with the couple and decided to break them up for laughs. The original phrase is “a wicked game”, is different as it is comparing love to a game where if one loses, it would be harmful to them yet one cannot resist playing due to the lovely rewards. Do comment which you like or think flows better.

It seems that everytime I have contact with her, I'll get the feeling to write a poem cause I feel depressed. I wanna forget her, but I think I cant.
The poem is kinda abstract just like how my mind is right now...

To suppress an emotion that seems so strong.
Then forcing my heart to just go along.
But alas in my mind, she’s always with me.
Constantly bringing up, not so distant memories.

Her laughter, her sighs still ringing in my ear.
Her smile, her sulk still ever so clear.
Confused I wonder, will I ever forget?
Or will my silence inevitably just bring me regret?

Is the sky blue and most roses red?
It’s still a rhetorical question so why not ask that?
The answers are obvious yet it seems so unclear.
Contradictory I know, isn’t that how love appears?

Unsatisfying, Unavoidable,
Undesirable, Unpredictable.
Gratifying, Fulfilling,
Pleasant and Brilliant.

Love’s a square with no sides,
and a circle with edges.
Loving is like walking on water,
and swimming on land.
Perhaps to you, this doesn’t make sense,
Maybe understanding love is just too immense.

I Wish

In the wee hours of the morning of 18th April 2009, I wrote this poem after realising AGAIN, that things weren't meant to be. I wanted to tell her that a few hours ago, but chickened out , AGAIN....

I Wish

I wish I could just whisper to you,
what my heart is screaming at me.
But never will I find any words
that will accurately tell you how I feel.

I wish I could just stare in your beautiful eyes,
and fight the urge to blink,
so I’ll never miss even a moment,
of you just sitting still.

I wish I could just hear you voice,
it’s cute how when you speak, you sing.
And that saintly little voice of yours,
only joy and happiness it brings.

But sadly wishes stay as wishes,
cause there’s nothing I can do.
Nothing short of a miracle

Everyone seems to be dreading this day. I dont know why Im excited over it. Im not confident of the results and I think my expectations are too high to be met anyways. Still, it's just curiosity in the end.

Hey Bloggy.

Im so sorry that Ive neglected you. LOL

If you were a child, Id think Ill get arrested for negligence and child abuse. Oh wells.

The reason why I am blogging today is because of one show called A Kucinta Family Reunion. While Ive watched 10 episodes of The Little Nyonya today, I think this show still got to me more.

So a quick review. I think the storyline between the characters played by Mindee Ong and Pierre Peng was abit too familiar ( 50 first dates and Cinta ). What interest me more that made me blog was about the little brother's story.

How much he dreamt of a girl and fantasized about it, only to fall in love with someone else ( who I found the actress to be super hot and anything you say wont sway me, Pamelyn Chee. Google her ).

It taught me a lesson. Sometimes, you got to take life a step at a time. You shouldnt close your eyes, brains or heart from others by concentrating on someone. First some commentary before you read. After watching some youtube videos about the current events, it just disturbed me to the point that I decided to write this poem. I decided not to really give it a proper title. A date as a title would be more significant and poetic.

It may not be my best work cause I was constantly distracted by my Meow Meow groupmates who at this time, is still chatting with me and the msn sound is killing me. Oh. Hi guys!

The scent of beautiful roses,
not even in distant memories.
The aroma of baking breads,
not even in their dreams.

Yet the stench of blood,
so unnerving , so familiar.
And they hope they would soon be numbed,
impossible, it wouldn’t come.

Urge them to open their eyes,

First week back : A Review

This is going to be a conversation between myself.

This week has not been too bad.

On Monday we went back to poly after about 7 to 8 weeks of absence . ( Technically, not counting the day I went back for BA Comm )

We went to Mas house which wasn't bad was it?

Then rushed to BA Comm Sound Check.

Did you say sound check?

Yes, we went sound check remember.

But why was the sound check a more than a week before the real thing?

I have no idea but it was still cool. Get to test the guitar with the PA System. Oh, it doesnt sound how I wanted it to sound but you can't have anything your way right?

Tuesday was just lectures I guess. Went to eat at erm, some ulu place at Queensway.

Wednesday was IS day. Oh, for those BA students who know me, please play along.

Story of The Maestro Guitar

Ok, yesterday, I posted saying I wanted to get a Takamine and that was the mindset that I had going to Peninsular.

So when I was at Peninsular, told my dad we should take a look at Luther's Music first since that is the only store I havent checked out yet. But to get there, we past Maestro. So decided to show my dad our Singaporean Guitars.

Inside the store, we were greeted by Sean the shop employee. Maestro guitars have the best and friendliest shop attendants. They know how much to help and how much to backoff to make us feel comfortable. ( To be fair, Luther's and Swee Lee's was too ). Davis ones were kinda scary. The environment there itself was kinda scary. Felt comfortable at Maestro.

So first I asked for the Maestro ED-1. The sound wasn't what I was hoping for and I was kind of disappointed. So I just kinda passed on that. I asked for the ED-2.

The moment I tried it, it changed the day completely. The sound captivated me and I was honestly shocked at how good it sounded. It had exactly what I wanted. Bright tone , yet not too sharp or brittle. A very balanced tone. Amazing.

Being the conservative buyer, I had to check out other guitars too. I was also biasedly thinking, " Wow, if I could get this piece of beauty from a Singapore made guitar, the Takamine is going to kick ass".

I guess call it the curse of commenting too early.

Went to Luther and their pieces just wasn't impressing me unplugged. It was worst when I asked for it to be plugged. Oh, this is a subjective thing. Don't take it that their guitars are lousy. It is just my opinion on what I wanted. Give some other guitar enthusiast, and they might have gobbled the guitars in a heartbeat.

So with pickup, I was just disappointed with the metallic or plastic sound that I was getting. Guess it was the Piezo Pickup that didn't appeal to me. I really love the Acoustic sound and that just weighed on my mind enough to not take the guitars.

Giving up at Luther, I returned to Davis to try my luck there. The Takamines again were not what I was looking for. The Maestro piece was calling to me and I couldn't find a Takamine's piece in the range to replicate or better the Maestro piece. Again, sound is subjective. Plugged in, again the sound didn't appeal to me. So I told my dad, Im going to gamble on that Maestro even though the installation of the pickup may not be satisfactory. The sound of the guitar itself, without being plugged was enough to make me swoon.

Like I said, I was the conservative buyer so I tried a few more Maestro pieces like the Elite Jumbo and a Custom one that I forgot the name. Tried that particular one to get a feel of the B.Band. I guess it is true. The B.Band Pickup gave me the true acoustic tone. It solidified my decision.

So now Im typing, a Maestro owner. I would put the pictures up as soon as I get the guitar back from the shop. Have to wait about a week cause of the installation of the pickup.

I know I've been neglecting this blog. Guess I've never really had anything to blog about but I'm forcing myself to do this.

Then, Ill have one family cause my current old guitar that has no brand has the Grand Auditorium body.

Need a new guitar!

Ok, I've been saying that for too long already.

What is holding me back is I guess my own laziness. Bugis and City Hall just seems so far right now and this probably ain't the best time to go and actually hunt for that guitar. LOL

I have a few in mind lately but I think Im gonna drop the idea of having a Epiphone Dove or Hummingbird because they don't even have equalizers at the price they are selling which are about 500+ and 700+.

Think I'll reward myself by going to Bugis Swee Lee next week, only after I finished studying at the Library there.

Yesterday I watched a video by a Ngee Ann Poly student at youtube and it just made me want to post videos again. However, I don't think I wanna read nasty comments from people. Oh wells. Need a guitar first anyways and my classical guitar has its 4th string broken, again. It is like the millionth time already.

You are pretty..." No , Im Not"

First of all, I'll start this post by giving an update of myself that I've seen changed.

Just a few years ago, I have this intimacy problem where I cannot seem to say someone or something is pretty or cute. It just get stuck in the thoughts or in the throat in the unlikely event I manage to squeeze it out of my brain.

Nowadays, I think I fare better because I can with some challenge say someone is pretty or cute without feeling so awkward. It helps that I have many cute friends who are girls. Haha. ( Dang, I'm complementing you girls. Be nice to me next time. )

So I have this mutual friend and we are like siblings. Well, we try to. I think we got the arguing part quite good already. Now I'm working on how to annoy and bully her. Haha. But I can be a nice brother and help her out when she needs help though I think she can easily deal with her problems without my intervention.

So the funny but annoying part is when I complement her like saying she is smart or pretty or cute. Her answer would always be " Im not" or somewhere around those lines. Sometimes, it is sad that one so nice could have such low self-image.

Ah, oh wells. Hope I can make her immune to this and I'll consider myself a successful brother when she is able to accept this compliment with a smile, not argue with me or herself about it and take it like a man. Uhm, i mean like a lady.

Moving on, I think I have no issues to really discuss about so I'll blog about my boring life. Stop reading if you will get bored. There isn't any thought provoking comments after this.

First interesting thing about today was my lunch.

For the first time since schooling in Ngee Ann, I had a meal at Canteen 4. Wow, it really is the most relaxed canteen. It is like polar opposites of Canteen 1 and Canteen 2.

Had the Mee Soto there. For those who like spicy food, I recommend you the Mee Soto. It really made me perspire and tear. And believe me when I say I love spicy food. I was thoroughly satisfied with the food. Granted, you have to pay 30 cents extra but the portion is bigger than canteen 1's and the chicken are in chunks not shreds. Oh, it is important to either tell them you want the chilli or say yes when they ask.

I was also like dumb there. I was searching for the fork and spoon. When i finally found where she located it, I could only find the spoon. No fork. So the stall lady showed me where it was. I apologised to her for my ignorance, saying it was my first time there. Haha.

" Im sorry, first time here."

"Oh, where you from?"

"Business School."

DSS test was ok. Shall not elaborate just to be sensitive to those who might not want get reminded of how it went though i doubt any ngee ann poly business students who take dss would read my blog.

Then there was vocal training. It was fun in the beginning until Cordelia and Sharon left. Then decided to hang out with the other BA COMMers who weren't in the Top 16. Used Jiaw's guitar. I seriously need one now. Maybe during the long break or study break, I get one. Just dont want to rush to buy this thing.

What makes me sad is how a friendship can just fall and break to pieces just like that.

Correction : It makes me sad that a friendship can just shatter just like that.

I didn't get the whole story. To be honest, I don't even know part of it. But I believe it would not be a lie if I said that whatever happened, it could be resolved right?

I've seen the fights before and to tell you the truth, it is never easy.It was not easy then, it is not easy now and it will never be easy no matter how many times it happens.

It would be less painful if the words communicated were not as sharp as knives and as lethal as a bullet.In fact, it feels like a bomb because even though the words thrown were at someone else, the ones that are close feels the ripple, the shockwave.

I firmly believe that any conflict can be resolved if one believes to forgive and forget. Please don't ignore the last part. "FORGET"

One shouldn't bring up past conflicts that were already buried in the past. Leave it un-exhumed. What is already forgiven shouldn't be used against another.

I hope the conflict could be resolved.

I believe that " What doesn't kill you make you stronger."
What rocks a relationship or friendship will only make bonds stronger.
Maybe it doesnt apply to this?

Ok. Things hasn't been really going fine has it?

Finished IAC module already. All presentations done and most are graded. I think this is the scariest module. I'm afraid it will drag down my GPA. However, with it done, I need less balancing of projects.

LMS project, presentation would be next week. Don't really feel much about it, but just hoping to score well.

DSS presentation tomorrow. For the second time, Im coming to campus in smart attire. First was because of scholarship interview. Now is for presentation. Previous presentations, didn't really have to wear smart. I just wore collared button shirt and jeans. This time, I think people going all out, so just follow.

BMGT, one project added. So now I have a total of two for this? Hopefully settle the small one first then concentrate on the bigger one. I have a feeling this one is going to seriously stress me out.

INFA class quiz tomorrow. Dang. Luckily this module no project or else I go crazy.

MAEC is a fun subject. Wished I took Microeconomics first instead of Macro but hey, when it is fun, it is fun. Economics rock!

BLAW just added a project. SAY WHAT!!! Didn't even know about it until just now. Due in week 12. Die. Lucky it is only a small percentage.

Been destessing by writing songs. I think the three songs I have are awesome. Just need to tidy up the second one, and maybe performing it for MP for Song Composing Club this coming Wednesday.

Sometimes it only takes one mistake to ruin EVERYTHING.

We may be harsh, but in our opinion, that one single mistake or for the tolerant ones, few mistakes is / are so bad that you will view it as unforgivable.

Perhaps it goes against our morals , principles or even values.

Values, morals and principles we hold dear and follow it like law.

So the question to myself and to my small amount of readers is, should we hold this mistakes against them?

Take into consideration that the mistake is very big is your opinion. It may not be a big issue to some though.

For example, lying to some is just a small mistake but to others, it is like a breach of trust.

Avoidance not the answer?

Sometimes avoidance just wont work when you are trying to get over someone.

It's weird actually. I haven't instant messaged her or sms her in about a month. ( Unlike you waniz, i dont count. Just in case you are reading this)

However, yesterday and today questioned made me question myself.

The problem arose when I thought I saw someone who looked like her. Twice but with two people were different.

The first one, if I had to rate from 1 to 10, was an 8 on the similarity scale. And for those who knows my rating system, it is very difficult to get an 8. When I saw her on the bus, I was saying to myself, " Shit! Why is _____ here?" Then I gathered my thoughts and realised this person only looks like her. But still, I doubted myself till now. I got off the bus as fast as i can.

Second instance was just now. On the way to school, at the bus interchange, I saw this girl who reminded me of her. She was probably a 4 on the scale of similarity but still, it made me think. Has avoiding _____ made my mind more paranoid?

What happens if i see the real __________ on the streets or something. Would that trigger back all the old feelings. I sure hope not.

This may probably be a lie , but a lie that is worth repeating till my brain gets it. Im over her. Really.

when it should have been from the east.

Hey! I know it is unlike me to post so many times in a week but this one is good.

I finally got myself a writing book for drafts of poetry and lyrics. I no longer have to type it in my phone which by itself is a major hassle. I want to bring it everywhere and write down lyrics or poems. I was actually looking for a notebook for the completed works but this one caught my eye and i fell in love with it.

Foolscapes are used so I dont have to constantly buy new books. Here are poorly taken photos. I would have worked angles but i was too excited . Haha.

As you can see here, work has already been done. And oops. I didnt peel off the price tag.

Ok dudes and dudettes reading, this is not a personal attack on my friends. So stay cool ok.

Have you ever met someone who you tried to be friends with yet they couldn't be bothered to be friends with you?

For example , they plainly ignore you when you try talking to them or try to end it by answering with a very short answer that you can see no thoughts being put in into it.

Or they would avoid at all cost hanging out with you.

This is not about shyness or anything. You can tell them apart. Shyness is when you can see these people are stiff when you talk to them. Or they stutter when they answer yet the answers show they are actually trying to express themselves.

Im just tired of my conversations being like an interview or surveys.

I'll be friends with you if you want to be friends with me. I won't impose my friendship on anyone.

Stop reading if you don't want to know bout my life cause it is gonna get boring.

Ok.

So I woke up with a super shock.

My mother said goodbye to me when I was in bed.

SHHHIIIIITTTT!!!!

I asked her, " Is it 7 already? Im late!! AHHHHH!!!"

So I quickly smsed Klara and Rachel to tell them to go first and ill see whether i can catch-up with them.

Wanted to go as soon as possible so I took the MRT towards Jurong. BAD IDEA! It was super packed. The direct one towards Pasir Ris was too packed, I cant even enter.

I rushed to the Bus Stop then smsed them again. Apparently, they were at Subway. LOL.
So I turned back.

Oh, forgot to mention I met my ex-classmates from Dazhong. Hi guys! LOL.

So when reached Ngee Ann, damn, don't know what to do already. Suddenly became shy again.

Some OGL thought I was chinese and spoke Mandarin to me. Muakaka.

Then made friends with most of the guys in my OG. We got high by talking about Football.

Announcement : Guys of 4D 08, real guys talk about football. LOL. Im gonna get beat up for this comment.

The Struggle Within

Okay. I believe this is one of the deepest poems I've written and sadly maybe the only genre I can do. I think on this one I did something different. I stepped outside for awhile and didn't make myself the subject of the poem.

When I wrote this, I could practically hear the protagonist and antagonist battling and shouting at each other and the former feeling an immense load of emotions while the latter was cold and unforgiving.

I hope by trying to be deep , I did write a good enough poem. Please Comment.

The Struggle Within

Stepped outside
he finally did.
Afraid, he walks.
His first time free.

Heard something
he froze in fear.
Crushed by the call
he dreaded to hear.

Turns around
he eventually did.
Terrored by the house
which had caged him in.

Cried silently
he resigned to doing.
Tormented by the past
which scarred him still.

Mouthed something

But words never came out

I would love to say enjoy but we should just be ashamed instead even though it may not apply to us. This is what "thinking" has made us?

Until today, I have never actually given Country Music a chance. Admit it, who in Singapore has? We just brush it off , well, most of it.

What I appreciate about Country and also some rock songs, are the meaning behind the song.

For most country music, there is like a storytelling going on. The inspiration for the music is genuine. The singer is genuine. And it tells, very clearly. For starts, let me give you a few videos on youtube of country music you should listen to.

This is going to be a rant on today's music industry and the taste of teenagers these days so if you happen to be a mainstream song listener, i strongly suggest you ignore it.

Look at the Popular Songs today. Horrid. I'm able to admit some of the MUSIC is good, but songs in general are dismal in quality. Most songs really don't have meanings. Artist that strive are those teenagers or adults who just release an album to make millions without actually caring about us.

Look at Soulja Boy for crying out loud. His song Crank It was so pathetic, it was basically beats and lyrics repeated over and over again. Low and behold, great success.

Teenagers, what are you thinking?

Seriously.

Are you actually understanding the songs or just short-changing yourself with low quality songs that just have repetitive but i admit catchy beats?

It is disgusting.

It is especially bad at the rap genre. My gosh, don't get me started.

Then there is this Disney people invading the airwaves too. AHHH!!!

This is why I always say, good music is like wine. The older they are, the better. What we have now are just beers. No quality whatsoever. Just to get cheap thrills i guess. Never going to be evergreen. Some musicians don't care about you. They only care about the $$$. That is why the songs they have are of ****** quality.

I suggest to people who are offended by this post though i told you to ignore this post to listen to music from the 70s. Seriously.

Look at bands from the past like The Beatles for example. Many more are still being listened to this days. That is because the songs mean something.

Or just listen to songs that have deep meaning? Don't make our era the one that 10 years from now we look back, we bow or shake our heads wondering what were we thinking. Imagine explaining Soulja Boy to your kids. Or some of the **** out there now.

My Fling With SAJC is Over!

Ok, it is official. I am no longer studying in SAJC. My fling is over.

I have been accepted into Ngee Ann Polytechnic's Accountancy Course.

(this is where i bring the analogy of flings to a whole new level so stop reading if are innocent or insanely chaste)

Ok, so like all good flings, my relationship with SAJC was short and sweet, fun, exciting and now, we have no strings attached.

We will have no obligations with one another.

However, at least I would feel sometimes, what would have happened had I remained faithful?

But it was my decision to leave so yeah.

However, POLY is so gonna rock!!! I cant wait.

The Lake House

I'm making myself very vulnerable right now with this post.

I decided to watch the show The Lake House and I found it to be a super romantic movie.
The plot has a few errors and paradoxes but Ill pardon it.

The message I got from the movie is that Love can transcend any barrier and sometimes, for true love to be revealed, you have to wait.

OK, this song has given me chills everytime I listen to it. A song with so much emotions and meaning.

Let me explain the context of the song. It is actually advices from a Father to his Son( hence the title ) and the son's response in his heart.

Note the tone and pitch difference that shows which of the two is talking. The father has a lower register while the son has higher and more emotive tone.

My decision to go Poly - The Story

Hi everyone.

I think I owe some people an explanation on why I chose a Polytechnic.

First of all, let me establish that this was purely MY choice, which was not influenced by anyone who tried to convince me.

I got blessings from both my parents, some teachers and many more from my friends. They wish me the best of luck and I thank you all for the support. I wish you all the best of luck too, and Sabrina, go kick ass too. Haha.

Now, for the non-supporters.

With no sarcasm whatsoever , I sincerely thank you too. This is because you too were concerned about my welfare and tried to show me what I stood to miss, had I chosen a Poly instead of a JC. I have listened to the advice , and I still (maybe defiantly or stupidly) believe that I can and will overcome the challenges and disadvantages of going Poly. I still believe ( again maybe defiantly or ignorantly), my chances to University is still there.

Back to the topic, my decision was based on the planning I've done. Here is the path had I gone Poly.

JC

University (if i got full A Level Cert that is). I will take a degree in Mathematics/ Applied mathematics.

NIE

Teacher.

So as you can see, I have limited options. I may take other university courses , but I have no passion for any engineering course so that would be a bad career move.

Now, the path for Poly.

Polytechnic

University or other Further Studies or Straight to Job

Job or NIE

If i go NIE, then can be POA teacher though Miss Lee said it was a dying subject.

Then if NIE, then Job.

sidenote: HI Miss Lee! Didn't know you read this blog. Luckily I didn't defame any teachers on this blog. Haha...lol.

So as you can see , I have more career options and more flexibility.

There it is. That is how I ( maybe defiantly or stupidly or ignorantly ) made my decision.

Results to me were alright. Wasn't as spectacular as it could be but considering my PSLE aggregate, it was a spectacular improvement.

I got 11 points for L1R5 and I know some people will hate me but I decided on going to a Polytechnic. It is my choice, which I got blessings from both parents.

So L1R4 is 9.

I really wanted a Malay amongst the Top Students. Had it been last year, I might have made it.

But our batch is GREAT! So many single digits. Haha.

Congratulations to Loh Si Lin and Alan Ng for doing 4D proud.

And to all, congratulations on your results.

And if you feel disappointed, there is always a next time ok? Start to or continue to work hard.

Secret : Some people in JC suddenly become complacent. Work hard and you will succeed.

Today was SAJC's 29th Cross Country! *cheers.

Haha, ok so finally woke up later than I normally would. Went to Bedok and shared cab with Hui Shan whom i chanced upon in the MRT.

Met the SAINTS and talked abit. Then i took pictures with my Lousy Handphone camera.

The Dilemma

Okay , almost anybody in Singapore will tell you after Secondary School, the better option is to go to JC than Polytechnics.

Hmm... I question this. I would rather look at them as equals, maybe even say Polytechnics are better.

Halt!!! Common argument here: If Poly is better, than why is it easier to get into Uni through Poly?

Hmm... Ok fine. Here are the choices.

If you want to take Academic subjects like Maths or Science, then maybe JC is the place for you.

But for work-related studies, maybe Polys are better. Why? Cause it is more hands-on. It gives you work experience.

Imagine this. Why would it be so difficult for Poly students to take Accountancy Courses in University when all they are asking for is Pass in O Level Additional Maths or H1 Maths?

I dunno.

EGO tells me go JC. Wise part of me says Poly.

Ego always seem to win, but for the sake of my future, I have to make an Informed choice.

That leads me to the lighter side of the post.

Yesterday, I went to both Singapore Poly and NYP Open Houses.

I asked the people there many questions.

I'll rank SP higher than NYP for the moment. Better to study there because of the flexibility and credibility.

Ok, CREDIBILITY.

Here is a funny story.

As I was going to my grandmother's house, a bank person approached me for a survey.
Survey only right? Just help this poor chap out. Oh, and note I told him i was in a JC. Remember this.

So he asked whether I had savings. I said Yes, and he asked which bank. POSB, I told him.

So he told me the interest rates. Then asked me if there was Higher Interest rates, would I be interested. I said " It depends on the Bank's CREDIBILITY".

So I think I sounded too intellectual or something. He asked me to take a seat and he'll explain to me a Savings Plan he wants to sell me. I told him, "But Im just a student." He replied nevermind. Just listen. Remember this.

So he explained to me the interest rates and the high rebates the Savings Plan Standard Chartered offered. So he explains like for 5 minutes why it is important and fruitful to apply for this Savings Plan. How the inflations make money smaller.

He was about to do the Maths of how much I stand to gain when he asked for my age. 16 I told him.

SHOCK OF HIS LIFE!!!

"Huh? You so young ah? You look very mature." How nice of you. Do I really look that old. Come on man.

So he said I was too young to be like paying $70 a month. DITTO. I mentioned like twice Im too young. I even wrote my legitimate birth date on your survey. Should have checked huh? LOL.

He basically wasted both our time, but I had time to waste so yeah. He was polite though and gave his name card so i can refer others to him. LOL. YEAH. He said he might follow up in 3 years.

PS: I'm free for Ngee Ann Open House. Anybody want to go with me? I'll be cheeky here and state my preferences.

I'll Give First Priority to Besty Izwanizah Malek( I purposely spelled this wrongly just to irritate you, hehe) .

SAJC Orientation

Okay , I don't know why but I love to give myself a challenge by blogging about things when it is not fresh in my mind.

So, its been 2 days since the Last day of Orientation and 5 days since the first day. Let me see whether I can remember the events and details.

Day 1

Ok, Kranjians would know I am a crazy early bird and obsessed about being early.

So I left my home at 5.45 and rushed to the bus stop. Journey was nerve-wrecking cause I didn't know where to alight. When I saw a fellow Saint, I was relieved. So from the corner of my eye, I watched him. (He was sitting behind and to the right of me so I had to be as subtle as possible)

So reached school at 6.30. GREAT! Just the time I reach Kranji, and that is only an MRT stop away.

So explored the school. The Place is ULTRA big compared to Dazhong and Kranji. Thinking about it, two of these schools put together still wouldnt be as big as SAJC. LOL .

Inside the CC (which until now, i dont know what it stands for) , met Sean Chi with his costume holding the OG 16 sign. Had to split with the only people I knew then, which were the other three Kranjians, of which I only knew Billy so wasnt much of a difference.

Sat beside Li Ting and she broke the Ice first. Haha, typical Luqman. If she hadnt said Hi, I would have just kept myself quiet and emo'ed, which i still partially did.

Then there was National Anthem and Skit by the OGLS and Tribe Heads.

Ice Breaking time. Uh-oh. Challenge for Luqman.

So played games to get to know the others better. One particular game was embarrassing.

Principal's Address and Subject talk.

Ok, at this point, all the fun drained out of me and the nervousness filled me up.

The teachers freaked me out with the subject talks. Why must I study subjects which will be irrelevant to what I want to pursue in University and Job? Poly seems a much better choice to specialise.

Subject registration time. AHHH!!!! The pressure ! I'm Sorry Miss Lee. I won't be taking Literature. *weeps.

Then there was the Gathering. No, it was not a dark secret society meeting. Haha, just practice cheering.

Lunch was ok. The Muslim food stall vendor was very funny and her food was delicious. Haha.

The HUNT began. Ok, my bag is super small. Haha, and valuables were ALOT! . The games were fun and the OG friends were very great in teamwork and unity.

And through another game, I realised I shared birthday with Xuanyi. Haha. That was a first. In Kranji, we had a 14, 15, 16 April chain babies but now was same day. LOL.

Lunch, nothing much here.

Played Wet and some disgusting games. LOL. Was very reluctant to do the Flour game, but decided to give a try. Haha. Flour is disgusting. LOL.

Then was debrief. Had to go home cause I live far. Haha.

At Night felt very tired and fever coming. Uh-OH.

Hydrated myself like crazy and slept super early.

End of Day 2.

College Song and Hymn.

Uhm, way better than Kranji's school song. No offense. LOL. The song was like British Era songs. Very Nice.

Then was CIP. Very Slack Job. Practically No one was at home.

Then had Lunch outside. I had to leave early for Friday Prayers. Missed the Stage games and SA Cheers.

Finale preparation. Ok, had super fun playing with the balloons. And I got my face painted by Pei Rong And Sean.

Had a green turtle on my right cheek. Lol....didn't look fierce at all. But i didn't erase it cause it is good humour. LOL.

Finale was great. IROQUIS rock!!! We won best Mascot but EVERYONE won the Best Tribe. I anticipated this. HAHA.

Then was the HIGHLIGHT of the Orientation. Disco Night with Live Band.

I actually had fun jumping and running around.

Then decided not to follow the rest for dinner cause I calculated the time and might miss the train and no money for Cab, especially due to the recent fare hikes. AIYAH.

Hey. I would like to start this year with a NEW BLOG SKIN!!!

Haha. After 4 years with my Rurouni Kenshin skin, I would like to start this year fresh, with something new.

I would have created a new blog, but this would do.

My New Year's Resolution would be :

To those who don't quite know what Boxing Day is ,

Boxing Day is a traditional celebration, dating back to the middle ages, and consisted of the practice of giving out gifts to employees, the poor, or to people in a lower social class. It was the day when people would give a present or Christmas box to those who had worked for them throughout the year.

Because of the boxes being given out, the day was called Boxing Day.

In England many years ago, it was common practice for the servants to carry boxes to their employers when they arrived for their day's work on the day after Christmas. Their employers would then put coins in the boxes as special end-of-year gifts. This can be compared with the modern day concept of Christmas bonuses. The servants carried boxes for the coins, hence the name Boxing Day.

In churches, it was traditional to open the church's donation box on Christmas Day, and the money in the donation box was to be distributed to the poorer or lower class citizens on the next day. In this case, the "box" in "Boxing Day" comes from that lockbox in which the donations were left.

Boxing Day was the day when the wren, the king of birds,^[4] was captured and put in a box and introduced to each household in the village when he would be asked for a successful year and a good harvest. See Frazer's Golden Bough.

Because the staff had to work on such an important day as Christmas by serving the master of the house and their family, they were given the following day off. As servants were kept away from their own families to work on a traditional religious holiday and were not able to celebrate Christmas Dinner, the customary benefit was to "box" up the leftover food from Christmas Day and send it away with the servants and their families. (Similarly, as the servants had the 26th off, the owners of the manor may have had to serve themselves pre-prepared, boxed food for that one day.) Hence the "boxing" of food became "Boxing Day".

Similar to above, leftovers and food were boxed up and shipped overseas in times of war to the soldiers of the Commonwealth Nations

I'm gonna do this before I get too lazy again.

I have always thought myself to be a mature person most of the time and advising others to be more tolerant and patient. Well, I feel that I have to admit I am a hypocrite sometimes.

You never truly understand until you experience.

So I have checked myself and as Krishna from The English Teacher by R.K Narayan would say put myself into "remorseless self-analysis".

I , Luqman Hakim , realised that I have been impatient at times and immature about my actions and speech. I have sometimes, melt my fuse over trivial matters and have thought of sinful revenge schemes and theories.

I have to a certain extent critised and bad-mouth certain individuals, some more often than I should. I would say i control this but even a little is too much.

The purpose of this post is not to rant on about what I have done but perhaps make ammends.

The first step is to realise I was wrong and admit it, which I have done so as seen in the above paragraphs.

The second step is for me to apologise. I am sorry to all those I have insulted / irritated / hurt through my actions or speech. Most of it, believe me is unintentional.

I would personally though apologise to those who I have , more than others, insulted, without any reason. ( No Ridhwan, if you are reading this, it doesnt refer to you. LOL).

My final step, which I will do until i go to my grave would be to avoid making the same mistakes. I cannot promise myself or others that I will never repeat it but I will try my best.

Wonders how two action (or lack of) can mean two different things.

So i finished 5 weeks plus JSS assignment in 5 days.

Am I a maths machine or maths genius?

More of a Maths Maniac.

I almost went crazy doing the work and was about to give up alot of times but I didnt want to be a hypocrite. I told a friend, that you must be patient and not easily give up. So after literally cursing and swearing, hair-pulling and punching the wall, I continued.

And my term of complete means every single answer is same as the answer sheet.

Today, got locked in a toilet. LOL! Patiently called my uncle's home, and tell him I was in his toilet. He passed me objects and was getting frustrated outside, while I was having a good laugh inside. I told him be patient. I was the one locked in. So slowly force the lock open and I was free. NO biggy.

So always be patient as it will help you solve problems instead of blocking your mind with panic.

And never ever rush 6 weeks of homework the last minute. Its like HELL!

7 straight Hours

Back and thigh is sore from sitting 7 hours straight doint Maths.

Early Morning was 1h 30 doing.

So now when I am posting, I spent 8h 30 min doing Maths and I still going to continue!

My goal is to finish it b tomorrow.

Woke up from a nightmare which if others had, would wake up sweating.

Its like a recurring dream I have. About World War 2. About how the Japanese conquered Singapore. Well, sometimes, its not during the World War but like right now. First had the dream when I was Primary 2. Will have it every once in a while.

Sometimes hold me captive and torture me. And believe me, somehow, I can feel the pain.(Slightly though) But when i wake up, no bruise or anything.

Sometimes , they bomb the buildings of my loved ones. And I just watch like i am really there.

Sometimes, they behead me. And I tell you I hate it when they behead me. The Katana will just come with the scary face of the Japs and I just die. Blank, then the whole dream like resets, and sooner or later I get beheaded again. Its like I am a character of a game.

Then, nothing much until the Stupid LCD of my Ipod Nano crack from the inside. Now I have no choice but to guess which song to choose. Or just shuffle songs.

Lol....I took down the earlier post.

Now, I skipped gym today because Arif Hakim didnt reply to my sms. Lol.

Nevermind, today can exercise with my dumbells.

But I hate the dumbells. It makes my hand tired.

Going to the gym, I exercise the abs, the chest, mostly the thighs and some of the arms.

So today, only arms. Tomorrow it will surely ache.
